The ubiquitous windmill is an institution in Australian farming. But it's an institution whose days are numbered. Health and safety rules make servicing a windmill a two-person job, with harnesses and scaffolding probably required too.

As a rule of thumb, if your water source is more than 300 metres from the nearest mains electricity, a solar pump is the best option.

Capable of pumping heads to 60 metres and delivering up to 23,000 litres a day in summer.
